The team responsible for drafting the annual ESCAP-ADB-UNDP MDG report for the Asia-Pacific region is circulating an outline for comments. With contributions from a number of UN regional offices, the team has completed an annotated outline of an advocacy piece for the September 2010 MDG Summit. We invite members of the AP-MDG-CoP to provide comments on the attached draft and look forward to your contributions.
Welcome to the discussion on Policy Dialogues on Inequality. This timely discussion will be driven by four country papers and a regional synopsis, which will lead up to a regional conference on 5-7 December in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The goal of this exchange is to broaden the discussion to include MDG practitioners working throughout the Asia Pacific region. Below you will find links to the five topics. We encourage you to visit each topic and we value your participation in this exchange.
In response to challenges faced by countries in the region, a joint initiative by UNDP Regional Centre in Colombo, UNESCAP, and ADB will draw upon the collective knowledge, resources, and experience of practitioners working in the region. The AP-MDG-CoP is a network where MDG practitioners exchange knowledge and find partners, synergies, and solutions to reach the collective goal of achieving the MDGs.
The AP-MDG-CoP partnered with the UNDP-FAO Hunger Campaign to facilitate an exchange between MDG practitioners in the region on hunger in the Asia Pacific. Here you can find the archive to our discussion on hunger, along with outputs from the UNDP-FAO Hunger Campaign.
In many developing countries including India, chronic hunger is related to a famine of work and purchasing power and not to a famine of food in the market. It is therefore clear that there is need to achieve “Work for All” for the purpose of ensuring “Food for All”. China has tried to promote opportunities for non-farm employment through the Village–Township Enterprises. Are there good examples in your area of concurrent attention to on-farm and non-farm employment, thereby creating multiple livelihood opportunities for the poor?
