13-15 November 2007, Bangkok, Thailand

The Expert Group Meeting on Developing Supplementary Targets and Indicators on Social Inclusion, Population, Gender Equality and Health Promotion to Strengthen the MDG Process was held at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand from 13-15 November 2007. The meeting was organized as part of the UN project entitled "Interregional cooperation to strengthen social inclusion, gender equality and health promotion in the Millennium Development Goal process" administered through the centrally funded Development Account under the Executive Committee for Economic and Social Affairs in New York. It was organized by the Emerging Social Issues Division of ESCAP in cooperation with the Statistics Division and the Poverty and Development Division.

The project aims to strengthen the MDG process by 1) increasing the capacity of policymakers to implement MDG policies by identifying gaps and hurdles in achieving the MDGS (2) increasing the capacity of Governments in the five regions to promote the social inclusion of vulnerable groups, gender equality and health dimensions in national development plans (3) provide supplementary targets and indicators to better track the progress made on the Goals, particularly those related to social development particularly in the areas of health, gender equality, socially vulnerable groups, and population and development.
